Create a database in Hadoop Metastore | Using Cloudera Hue

Hello Everyone, This article is part of Cloudera Hue tutorial series. In this article we will learn:-

  • Create database using Cloudera Hue – With Default Storage Location.

  • Create Database using Cloudera Hue – With External storage location.


Create Database using Cloudera Hue – With Default storage location.

  1. Open Hue page.
  2. Click on “Data Browser” and select “Metastore Manager” from drop down list.
    This will redirect you to “Metastore Manager” page. Learn more about Metastore Manager.
  3. Click on  “Databases” to see all available database name. By default, only one database “default” will show.
  4. Click on “+” sign in right hand to create new database.
  5. Enter Database name and description and click “next“.
    My database name is “testhue” and description is optional.
  6. Here you can able to see as by default, /user/hive/warehouse/database_name is the location name.
  7. And then, Click on “create database“.

You can check created database  using Step 4.

Create Database using Cloudera Hue – With External storage location.

  1. Open Hue page.
  2. Click on “Data Browser” and select “Metastore Manager” from drop down list.
    This will redirect you to “Metastore Manager” page. Learn more about Metastore Manager.
  3. Click on  “Databases” to see all available database name. By default, only one database “default” will show.
  4. Click on “+” sign in right hand to create new database.
  5. Enter Database name and description and click “next“.
    My database name is “testhue” and description is optional.
  6. In next page, If you want to specify any specific external location then unchecked the “check box” and then enter the “external location” name.
  7. And then, Click on “create database“.

You can check created database  using Step 4.
